Community acupuncture is a group setting where multiple people receive acupuncture in a room together, with appointments staggered 15 minutes apart. Treatments are performed in zero gravity chairs with the patient in loose-fitting clothing, needles are placed on the head and lower aspects of the arms & legs
Most acupuncturists in North America treat patients on tables in private rooms, in Asia, the community model is the traditional way of practicing acupuncture. The practice of community acupuncture is a grassroots movement intended to increase access to acupuncture and widen its use in our healthcare system. These treatment are equally as effective as a private treatment, with a different approach to lower barriers to access.
