You just need to have enough of an open mind to want to find out if acupuncture will work for you, and you will only know that for sure by experience. We suggest you try it and see what you think.

Absolutely yes! You can combine acupuncture with almost anything; Nothing is going to make it less effective, and it doesn't interfere with anything else. It doesn't interfere with medications. In fact, it has been shown to increase the positive benefit of other therapies when used at the same time.

Usually not much at all. Sometimes you can feel a sensation when a point is placed, then it quickly subsides. Most people are deeply relaxed and/or asleep once all points are placed. If you are nervous about receiving acupuncture, let us know! We have lots of techniques to help make the treatment feel safe, we can also do a private treatment without the use of needles.

Yes! Acupuncture often acts like a reset button for the entire body. Often, patients who come in for one issue will notice an improvement in something apparently unrelated. Acupuncture also has "side effects" of reducing stress and promoting better sleep and more energy which often help improve most health issues.

Yes, and it is important to let us know if you might be pregnant. Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment for many symptoms in pregnancy. It is common for midwives to refer their patients to an acupuncturist to help manage symptoms, promote relaxation, and promote labour.

Traditionally a course of acupuncture treatment in China is treatment daily, until the condition has resolved but we recognize that this isn't feasible for most people.

At your first visit we will give you a treatment plan for your main complaint.  In general, we recommend coming in once per week to start. After completing 6 treatments we will reassess and either suggest that you continue to come at about this same frequency for a bit longer, or at that time you might decrease frequency to maintain the benefits you’ve received. These are simply recommendations, and you ultimately decide how often you come in for treatment.
Any time you come in for treatment feel free to check in about your treatment plan. In some cases, like with very acute pain, labour induction, unrelenting migraines, nausea, etc. we recommend more frequent treatments until things change more significantly.

This depends on whether you are coming in for private or community treatment. For ear acupuncture, wear your regular clothing as we only need access to your ears! For community treatments, wear loose-fitting clothing that gives easy access to your lower arms and lower legs and your head. For private treatments, clothing can be removed to your comfort level to access different areas of the body.
